Celebrating “St. Nicholas the Wonderworker“
On Sunday, Dec 8th, our Parish celebrated St. Nicholas, the Patron Saint. Following the Service, a buffet lunch was served. Once St. Nicholas arrived, to the delight of everyone, our Church President Dorothy invited all the children on stage to meet St. Nicholas and to be presented with a gift. This is one of our favorite days of the year !
Saint Nicholas is known for his compassion and generosity, and is also known as ‘St. Nicholas the Wonderworker‘. Saint Nicholas is revered as a miracle worker and the patron saint of children, the poor, travelers and farmers amongst many more.
Traditionally, Nicholas was born in the port city of Patara to wealthy Christian parents during the Roman Empire (15 March 270 – 6 December 343). After his parents died from an epidemic, Nicholas is said to have distributed their wealth to the poor. His legendary habit of secret gift-giving gave rise to the folklore of Santa Claus.
