Kylym – Woven Through Time

Help Us Preserve Our Ukrainian Heritage — Kylym Rugs Wanted

As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of UWAC (the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada), the St. Michael’s Ukrainian Women’s Association is planning a special event that will include showcasing Kylym bench rugs, a beautiful part of our Ukrainian heritage

Traditionally, these rugs were handwoven from recycled materials, often using threads from old, worn-out clothing. The colourful woven rugs were practical and served many purposes — from covering a bench seat to being used as a bed covering or blanket.

We are looking for Kylym rugs dating from the late 1800s to the early 1900s to showcase at this special event. If you have a family heirloom that you would be willing to share, we would be delighted to include it.

All rugs will be handled with care and returned to their owners following the event.

Help us share and preserve these treasured pieces of Ukrainian history for future generations. Please contact Koreen (780) 221 -1918 or Dorothy (780) 476-3646 for more information before Sept 30, 2026.
